Seajacks Leviathan Set To Work At Greater Gabbard Offshore Wind Farm Project In UK

Published: 25-Oct-2009

Seajacks International Ltd. (Seajacks International), the UK jack-up liftboat operator, has delivered its Seajacks Leviathan vessel to Fluor Corporation (Fluor) on time and on budget. This marks the start of Seajacks' offshore charter works at Greater Gabbard offshore wind farm project.

Seajacks vessel was formally accepted by Fluor at Vlissingen, The Netherlands. It will now sail to Essex where the jack-up will prepare for hook- up and commissioning of in-field substation. Thereafter it will proceed with turbine installation work in the North Sea. The vessel will work 25 kilometres off the east coast of England on the Greater Gabbard wind project, which will be the world's largest offshore wind farm upon completion in 2011.

The Greater Gabbard development will demonstrate both the scale and engineering ingenuity required to make offshore wind an integral part of the future energy mix, Ainslie continuous in a comment.

"We are pleased to have delivered Leviathan safely and on schedule, and look forward to playing our part in the construction of this landmark renewable energy project", says managing director of Seajacks UK, Blair Ainslie.

The Seajacks Leviathan is designed specifically for the harsh North Sea environment. Its sister ship, the Kraken, is currently in the final stage of a five-month project in Canada's equally inhospitable east coast waters, providing maintenance work at the Thebaud platform located off Sable Island.
